The joy of eating at Polka starts with reading the menu. After visually devouring the ingredients listed in each dish, you get to learn where they come from. Whether fish from Bavarian lakes, veggies from a forest gardener or goat’s cheese from a local milk farmer – this place is all about eating locally, seasonally and, of course, well.
Opened in 2016, Polka’s head chef is Jacob Ebnet who used to work at foodie-favourite Goldmarie. The owner, Christiane Zabler-Jenewein, has been running Fortuna Cafébar around the corner for many years.
Arrive hungry and go for the full three courses. If you are dining with people who like sharing, we recommend covering most of the starters – they are often the most experimental and always delicious. Recent highlights include kale, walnuts and parmesan or fennel salad with orange, almonds, parsley and sheep’s cheese.
For dessert, try the cheese (obviously). There’s always just one on offer, served with a well-paired chutney or jam. To round it all off go for one of the mini homemade chocolate truffles. At just one euro a hit – it would be rude not to!
