Every week a shiny new building seems to spring up in the Werksviertel development next to Ostbahnhof, bringing a wealth of cafes, bars, shops and, of course, a ferris wheel to the east of the city.
Just to the north of all this action, you’ll find another new spot. Cafe Louka has great coffee, homemade cakes and a daily-changing lunch menu, making it a firm favourite for people who live and work in the area.
The menu always includes a soup as well as a more hearty option such as lasagne, risotto or gnocchi. Their vegetable dumplings are a must. For those who just want to grab a quick bite, there’s also a tempting selection of sandwiches next to the cake counter.
While the food isn’t always vegetarian, they use a lot of fresh and seasonal vegetables.
The beautiful cafe is built on two levels with many interesting design features and great attention to detail. Even the tap water stand is cool.
The people behind Louka are Louise and Kathi, two friends with many years of hotel and restaurant experience between them. In 2018, after stumbling across the perfect location, they decided to start their own venture.
“It was simply the right place at the right time,” they explain. “Ever since we opened, we’ve felt at home here – and we love being able to do things exactly how we want!”
With a relaxed and friendly vibe, Cafe Louka is great for groups and solo coffee drinkers alike. Just be sure to arrive hungry as you’ll want to try everything.
